History of Comics Research
For the first week of comic club, I had to research the history of comics in order to teach my students all about it. I found a Wikipedia article on the subject, and here's a summary of my research:
Session Date:
18/11/17
Resource Used:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_comics
Brief Summary/Description of Source:
Wikipedia is a free, online encyclopedia created through collaborative efforts.
What Was I Hoping To Find Out?:
I was hoping to gain a simple understanding of the history around comics in order to teach my students about the origins of the comic format.
Brief Summary of What I've Learnt From the Source:
I learnt about printing presses and early comics in newspapers, along with early pioneers of comic strips found in newspapers today, superhero comics and manga.
Reliability of the Source:
Due to the fact that Wikipedia articles can be edited by anyone, the reliability of the source does drop a little, but I did some separate research into names mentioned within the article and the information seemed to check out. Plus, I only required a basic understanding of the history around comics because I only wanted to give my students a simplified lesson.
What Next?:
I will use this information in my PowerPoint for Monday, and teach the students a really basic lesson surrounding the history of comics.
