Week 2 Research

For Week 2, I decided to research on YouTube for some fun and engaging videos that could assist me in teaching my students about the importance of character creation. From here, I stumbled across this video on the clichéd 'Mary Sue' character types, on a channel called 'Terrible Writing Advice'.

Session Date:
1/12/17

Resource Used:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhrfhQbY0K8

Brief Summary/Description of Source:
Provides a simplified incredibly sarcastic description on how not to write a character.

What Was I Hoping To Find Out?:
I was hoping to find an engaging video on character creation that was easy for my students (aged 11-14) to follow and understand.

Brief Summary of What I've Learnt From the Source:
I learnt all about the common cliché of 'Mary Sues' within character creation, and how immensely unpopular they are to an audience.

Reliability of the Source:
By searching through the account's YouTube, I found a link to the creator of the video's website, who's an author with at least one published book. Plus, the comment section of the video seems to have no objections to what he's saying, so I'd say this source is pretty reliable.

What Next?:

I will include this video in the PowerPoint for Week 2, and also take information from it and use it within the session.
