Project Timeline
Because my day to day life is quite busy, I decided to create a timeline of how I expect my project to progress. However, trying to pinpoint a date to start the club has been harder than expected, so instead, I created a very basic timeline that would allow me to be flexible with how I choose to run the club. Through my previous experience running a group, I've found it's important to be flexible in your plans in case circumstances change; for example, not enough members might show up one week.
Here's the timeline:
Weeks leading up to comic club:
Design posters, send news of the club out to form tutors, advertise club on boards around school.
Comic Club Week 1:
A Welcome Evening! Introduce myself, encourage discussion in the group with ice-breakers, teach the students about the history of comics and recommend them some of my favourite free webcomics.
Comic Club Week 2:
Teach the students about the importance of characters, in their creation and design. Encourage them to start thinking about their protagonists and deuteragonists.
Comic Club Week 3:
Teach the students how to write an effective plot, while avoiding clichés and attempting to write a creative, original story.
Comic Club Week 4:
Teach the students about art styles, and discuss drawing tips. Art styles are notoriously hard to find, so I'll have to show them a few memorable examples to help them find their own.
Comic Club Week 5:
Teach the students about four-panelled comics, and encourage them to start drawing their own. Show them examples of famous comic artist who draw in four panels for social media.
Comic Club Week 6:
Have individual discussions with the students about their comic ideas, and give them feedback on how to improve it.
Comic Club Week 7 and Beyond:
Start creating our own comics! I'll aim to do one page a week, and encourage the students to do the same. This should give us chance to get a substantial amount of comic done. We'll do this every week until the end of the year.
Furthermore, I need to create a realistic timeline for my comic. Here's my initial plan as to how the comic will progress over the course of a year:
- By January, develop my ideas and decide on the characters and plot.
- By March, draw out some practice and initial concepts for the design of the comic. Find some examples from professional artists on how to draw comic book pages.
- March and beyond, start drawing my comic, and complete one page per week in order to provide a large portion of a comic book by the end of the project.
